Energy supplier gets green light for windfarm
One of the UK's leading energy suppliers has been given the green light to build a new windfarm on a site near Doncaster.
E.ON's planned 22-turbine project, which was approved by energy minister Malcolm Wicks, is set to generate enough electricity for over 26,000 homes.
Work on the windfarm is planned to begin next year and it is believed that it will save more than 1.8 million tonnes of carbon emissions during its period of operation.
Danny Shaw, E.ON's head of new business, said that company was "delighted" to be given the go-ahead on the project.
"We're taking a leading role in the development of renewable energy in the UK and we currently have enough green power schemes in development to power more than one million homes," he explained.
Mr Shaw added that the projects could also prevent the total emission of two million tonnes of greenhouse gases every year.
Earlier this month, E.ON followed in the footsteps of several of its rivals by announcing that it was increasing the price of its gas and electricity tariffs.
